USDA released its Quarterly Hogs and Pigs Report on March 28. The report showed on March 1, 2024:

  • Inventory of all hogs and pigs was 74.6 million head. This was up 1% from March 1, 2023, but down 2% from December 1, 2023.
  • Breeding inventory was 6.02 million head, down 2% from last year, but slightly up from the previous quarter.
  • Market hog inventory was 68.6 million head, up 1% from last year, but down 2% from last quarter.
