Pork continues to gain national recognition as a nutritious, high-quality protein, backed by decades of research and growing visibility in dietary guidance and media. With continued investment in science and engagement with health professionals, pork is well-positioned to remain a trusted choice on consumers’ plates.

For producers, this alignment matters. When research, health professionals and consumer-facing conversations point in the same direction, it strengthens pork’s position and builds confidence in the product you raise every day.

A Month Focused on Nutrition and Progress

March is National Nutrition Month and brings a national focus on nutrition, alongside a meaningful milestone for NPB. Pork & Partners marked three years of connecting with healthcare professionals through research, resources and education.

What began as a targeted effort to engage dietitians and health professionals has grown into a trusted platform that delivers science-based information, continuing education opportunities and practical tools. These are the audiences helping shape nutrition recommendations and influencing how consumers think about food.

“That work is critical. By building relationships and providing credible information, Pork & Partners helps ensure pork is included in conversations about healthy eating patterns—today and into the future,” said Dr. Kristen Hicks-Roof, NPB, director of human nutrition.

Research That Supports Pork’s Role

NPB continues to invest in research to better understand pork’s role in human nutrition and ensure it remains relevant with today’s consumers.

Over the past 22 years, more than 60 nutrition studies have been conducted with NPB support, creating a strong and growing body of evidence. In 2025 alone, 12 human nutrition research projects were funded, with work carried out at leading institutions.

This research1 looks at pork’s impact across life stages, cultural groups and dietary patterns, helping answer important questions about how it fits into a nutritious diet. Findings continue to show that pork provides high-quality protein and essential nutrients2, while also contributing to overall diet quality. In fact, research indicates3 that people who consume pork tend to have higher intake of fruits, vegetables and key nutrients4 compared to those who do not.

By continuing to invest in science, NPB is helping ensure pork remains supported by credible, relevant research that resonates with both health professionals and consumers.

National Recognition Reinforces the Message:

That research is increasingly being reflected in national conversations about food and nutrition.

The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans reinforce pork as a nutrient-dense protein that fits within recommended healthy eating patterns. This alignment with federal guidance provides an important, trusted reference point for both consumers and health professionals.

At the same time, pork is gaining visibility through mainstream media. People Magazine recently featured a nutritious pork recipe reaching millions of households, while The Today Show highlighted pork tenderloin’s nutritional value, including 22 grams of protein for just 122 calories and 3 grams of fat.
