Swine health challenges can affect productivity, increase costs and disrupt an entire operation. Making meaningful progress requires more than research alone. Producers also need practical information, coordinated industry action and solutions they can apply on the farm.

The National Pork Board (NPB) has launched The Next Mile, a video series that connects producers with swine health experts about the challenges in the industry is facing today, practical solutions producers can apply on the farm, and the National Swine Health Strategy’s role in strengthening swine health.

What Producers Can Take Away

Built by producers for producers, the National Swine Health Strategy (NSHS) aligns research, programs and on-farm resources to move the needle on swine health challenges like Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus (PRRSv) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv).

Through The Next Mile, producers can better understand the work happening across the industry, how it may support their operations and the role they can play in moving swine health forward. The conversations provide practical context to help producers:

  • Stay informed about emerging and ongoing disease threats
  • Understand the research and strategies guiding industry action
  • Learn how disease prevention and preparedness connect to their farms
  • Identify practical considerations for protecting herd health
