Identification of Protective Antigens of African Swine Fever Virus
African swine fever (ASF) is an acute viral disease of domestic swine with mortality rates approaching 100%. Currently endemic in extensive regions of Eurasia, ASF is “out of Africa”...

Evaluation of Lyophilization on Efficacy of African Swine Fever Vaccine Candidate ASFV-G-ΔI177L
Currently there is no commercialized vaccine for African swine fever (ASF). One of the most promising candidates to date is the highly effective and safe live attenuated vaccine candidate...

Factors to Consider in a Potential Eradication Plan for African Swine Fever in the United States: A White Paper
This white paper presents factors to consider and potential approaches for developing an eradication plan for African swine fever (ASF) should it become established in the United States. The white...

An African Swine Fever (ASF) positive cohort study:  Validating various PCR tests and sample types for African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) detection in boars; and determining the possibility of transmission via artificial insemination

The first study using experimentally ASFV inoculated adult, commercial boars to determine which sample types and PCR procedures were optimum in detecting ASFV in boars and gilts. Additionally, it proved that insemination of ASFV infected semen to naïve gilts resulted in transmission of the virus.

Evaluation of African swine fever virus antibody detection and viral nucleic acid detection dynamics in swine in various sample types
This research project assessed the African swine fever virus’s (ASFV) nucleic acid and antibody detection in tonsil scrapings, cheek swabs, oral fluids, blood, and some tissues across three...

Detection of African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) in Pork Meat Products by PCR Assay
African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious viral disease causing high mortality in members of the Suidae family. Besides animal health, the disease also imposes serious economic consequences,...

Inactivation of African Swine Fever Virus on Stainless Steel and Concrete with Commercial Disinfectants and Organic Acids
The primary purpose of this research study was to determine if liquid microbicides commonly used in swine production facilities demonstrated virucidal efficacy against African swine fever virus...
Swine Health - Foreign Animal Disease
Evaluation of African Swine Fever Virus Nucleic Acid Detection Dynamics in Swine in Oral Fluid Samples Collected After the Detection of the Presence of the ASF Virus in Pigs from Commercial Establishments
Acquiring ASF positive samples from an endemic country to test at FADDL will help to determine how these samples types and diagnostic tests can be utilized during an ASF response in the US. Samples...

African swine fever surveillance using oral fluids for rapid detection and disease control
The main objective of this project was to evaluate the feasibility of utilizing swine oral fluids as a reliable aggregate sample type for early detection of African swine fever (ASF). At present, the...

Evaluating the prevalence and distribution of African swine fever virus during feed manufacture, as well as feed mill decontamination measures
The feed supply chain can be a significant risk of pathogen transfer. While historically, farms have evolved to have biosecurity limiting farm-to-farm interaction, there continues to be gaps in swine...
